Athletic Training Room

Salem High School Athletic Training Room

Salem High School has had a full time certified athletic trainer (ATC) since the 2001-2002 school year.  Ms. Bower is currently the third athletic trainer hired/contracted in through the Salem City School District.  Ms. Bower is a 1992 alumni of Salem High School and a 1997 graduate of Salisbury University.  She is dedicated to providing the most up-to-date medical care to the athletes of Salem High School and it's visitors.

Athletic Training Room Procedures

All students prior to being treated must sign-in and follow the procedures:

  1. Any athlete that has an away contest schedule for the day is treated or taped first.
  2. Any athlete that has a home contest schedule for the day is treated or taped second.
  3. All other practice athletes whom have been seen and treated prior to the day are treated or taped on a first come first serve basis.
  4. Any athlete that has a new injury, which has not been evaluated, is treated or seen last.

To help speed up treatment make sure the injured athlete sees the athletic trainer on the day they are injured!

ImPact Testing

Salem High School completed its pilot program with the New Jersey Brain Injury Institute to test each contact/collision sport athlete pre-season through ImPact.  Today it is school policy that all contact/collision sports athletes are Impact tested prior to their first scrimmage or game.  ImPact testing is basically a pre-season test for the athlete's brain.  If they sustain a head injury during the season, the athlete is retested and results are compared to the baseline test.  The test is a simple computer game and requires no athlete being "hooked up" to a computer.  Athletes are typically tested in their freshman and junior years, unless they are new to the district or sport.  For more information on ImPact testing please feel free to go to the following website:  www.impacttest.com/impactbackground.php

If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact the athletic trainer.
