Boys Outdoor Track: Williamstown's Edwyn Pierre continues to shine at Tri-County Showcase (With Photos)

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP – Edwyn Pierre has done his part to live up to the hype.

The once unknown basketball player has proved that his junior season wasn't a fluke. He repeated as Gloucester County Championships titlist in both hurdle events last week. Thursday at the Tri-County Showcase at Delsea High, the senior of the Williamstown High track and field team scored another gold medal in 400-meter hurdles.

“It was highly successful,” Pierre said of his season. “I was kind of running for time today. I wasn’t really racing. I am trying to get a good seed for sectionals, so I can do what I did last year.”

The TCC Showcase is a non-scoring event, one of the last big events before the sectional meets. Pierre continued his dominance in the hurdles, winning the 400 hurdles in 54.26. He is the defending sectional champion in the 110 and 400 hurdles.

Williamstown opened the meet with the win in the 4x800. Michael Abriola, Mike Dowd, David Morrow and Brian Kinsley won in 8:24.3.

“I feel there has been a little bit of pressure,” Pierre said. “But my dad and coach always say that pressure is invisible.”

Delsea's Khaliel Burnett won the triple jump (46-feet-6½-inches) and long jump (21-11). Teammate Tymir Kizee won the 110 hurdles in 15.36. Kingsway's Earnest Daniel took gold in the high jump (6-4).

Salem broke the meet record in the 4x100. The results say Ramon Bentley, Jamere Furbush, Justin Harris and Zaire Jones ran a 41.71, but Jonathan Taylor was phenomenal on the last leg. Salem broke Cumberland's 43.50 mark. Taylor won the 100 in 10.58 and made it look easy. Taylor earned his second individual medal in the 200 (21.53).

Pennsville's Zachary Pope (4:31.02) and Timothy Shields (4:38.36) went 1-2 in the 1600. Cumberland's Michael Girock won the 400 in 50.05.

“I feel really good about my season,” Girock, the senior Cumberland County Championships titlist in the 400, said. “I had never ran the 400 until this year. I always did the 800. I finally gave it a trial, and it is the most fun race I’ve ever ran. It is really fun to run it. It is just easier to run. After the 800, I am spent. In the 400, I don’t have to run a second lap.”

Philip Iuluicci of Hammonton won the 800 in 1:58.16.
