New venue, new students — same amazing result!
On May 19, 2016 the Salem Middle School Choir continued to display superb talent and excellence in the regional Trills and Thrills Music Festival, this year at Toms River High School North in Toms River.
Attending this location for the first time, the choir had 20 new faces performing, but accomplished what great choirs do best — singing in harmony!
For the second consecutive year, third time in the last four, and eighth time in the last 11 years, the chorus received the top rating of "superior" choir, earning 93 out of a possible 100 points.
A variety of music was performed including selections in two foreign languages and the Academy Award winning protest anthem, "Glory." The choir was adjudicated on its tone, intonation, diction, technique, interpretation, balance and repertoire. In all, the choir has won 23 awards over the last 11 years and has been rated either "excellent" or "superior" at every local, state and regional event or festival it has participated in.
It was a fitting end what has been a stellar musical year that started back in October when the choir was selected and invited to be the guest group at the New Jersey School Boards Association convention in Atlantic City. The students are a tremendous example of some of the best, brightest and most talented children Salem County and New Jersey has to offer.
