Jonathan Taylor of Salem wins the boys 100 at the Meet of Champions, 2016

BAYVILLE – It only took Jonathan Taylor two years to become one of New Jersey's best athletes on the track.

Taylor, a football star for Salem that is only in his second year as a track and field athlete, broke through to win the 100-meter dash at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions on Wednesday night at Central Regional High School.

"It means a lot," Taylor said. "Me being a football guy and deciding to do track, I want to be the best in football and then coming out here on the track, I decided I wanted to be the best in track. I found my event in the 100 and I said that I'm going to work and be the best at it."

Taylor won the event in 10.61, dropping .15 from his time in the trials of 10.76.

"Coming into the finals, I knew that in the trials, I could have had more arm drive and that I could have had more leg drive. I knew if I worked on that I could pull through in the finals."

Tyler Moore of Hamilton West took second in 10.69 and Martin Brooker Jr. of Pennsauken finished third in 10.77.
